Springer and his wife, Rachel Fielding Hutchinson Springer. Rachel, a playwright and local theater director, was the daughter of Charles Henry Hutchinson, author of Chronicles of Middletown, and a direct descendant of George Fisher, Middletown’s founder. Since Rachel’s death in 1952, the house has had a variety of owners. In recent years it underwent back-to-back foreclosures.
